Klaus Nomi
Do you know Klaus Nomi? No? Then you’re missing out! Klaus had an enchanting voice and a unique stage presence. Let’s start with his debut. I really liked his debut at the New Wave Vaudeville show, so I included this part with commentary from the documentary to provide context for his debut.
He made his debut at Irving Plaza in New York at the New Wave Vaudeville Show in 1978, evoking memories of an even earlier era by performing the aria ‘Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix’ from Camille Saint-Saëns’ 1877 opera Samson and Delilah.
There are already plenty of articles about his performances, but I want you to experience it for yourself. Listen closely, and notice how the audience reacts to him in this strange, almost freakish show. Klaus stands out—he’s an exception in the midst of all the chaos. Take a look!
‘Total Eclipse’ is an incredible song, and the costume? Absolutely striking.
Below is my selection of songs from his discography that I personally enjoy.
